1) What is the cost of the festival? Passes are Q500 and include entrance into all workshops and festival events, (Accommodation and food are NOT included.) If you only want to go to one workshop it is Q100 per workshop and does not include entrance into the events.
The Awakening the Dreamer Symposium on Friday, March 17th is included in the pass. It is advised that you pre register so we know how many people are planning on attending. It will take place at El Dragon from 12-5pm.
2) Where and when can I buy tickets? Passes will be on sale at Shambhala March 13-17th. Go to the Schedule section above if you would like to buy online via Pay Pal. Passes purchased in person will be cash only.
3) Do I have to sign up for each workshop I want to go to? No, just go to your desired workshop. Some workshops may be limited for space so get there early.
4) Will there be a map? How far is it between workshops? Yes, there will be a map posted. There are workshops in various places around and close to town. San Pablo is the next village over and is Q5 / direction. It takes about 10 minutes to get there. Boats to Tzununa will cost Q5 and Tuk Tuks Q15-Q30 depending on your driver.
5) How do the timings of the workshops work? Most workshops are 90 minutes (unless otherwise stated). Workshops begin fifteen minutes after the hour and then finish fifteen minutes before the next. (ex: 8:15-9:45) Everyone has 30 minutes to get to there next workshop.
6) Can I buy tickets/passes at the individual workshops? NO! You must have your pass or tickets on hand at each workshop. Facilitators will check for passes and collect tickets at each workshop. If you do not have one, you will be asked to return to the Pass vendor and purchase one. It takes a lot of time and energy to organize this event and it is the Festival of Consciousness, so Please be conscious and honest and purchase your tickets. Thank you!
7) Where can I stay? There are hostels and hotels in San Marcos, the average price for a dorm room is Q70 per person. In a few places you may be able to make a reservation but most work on a walk in basis. Feel free to check Facebook or web pages for these recommended places to stay: La Paz Eco Hotel, Hotel Quetzal, Del Lago, Aaculax Hotel, Circles Cafe and Hostel, Bosque Encantado, El Arbol Hostel, Posada Schumann, Paco Real, Pete's Place, Horus, Hostel San Marcos, Hotel Silani and Panabaj. Maya Moon and a new hosel in Tzununa may also have places. Connect with the San Marcos Atitlan community page. This page also has various rental properties listed. Mayan Moon Lodge is in the next town, a 5 minute boat ride and 30 minute walk. San Pedro is a 10 minute boat ride away. The first boat heads to San Marcos at 6am and the last heading back to San Pedro is at 7:30pm. If there are enough people staying in San Pedro we will arrange a private boat to take you home later in the evening. (Let us know if you are interested) Panajachel is about an hour away, first boat leaves at 7am and last returns to Pana at 5pm. Private boats can be arranged and will cost you about Q200- Q250 depending where and when you are going.
8) What should I bring? There is one 5B ATM BANKS HERE, if you are lucky it might have money in it. Also bring your own water bottle because you create less garbage that way. If you have your own cups that is also great to minimize waste. Comfortable clothes, a pen, notebook and a great attitude are always useful.
9) If I do not understand some of the workshops, is there someone who can explain them to me? Yes, there will be a long version at the Pass Table and posted on this site.
10) How does it work if I am giving one of the workshops? All facilitators get a festival pass that allows you to attend the workshops and events. You are responsible for picking up your wrist band prior to the Festival beginning (March 17th), you need to bring your own music etc... and it is best you check in with the space provider to ensure you are aware of set up etc...
