The Festival of Consciousness was born in March 2009.
It came about after 40 days of silence while doing The Sun Course at Las Piramides Meditation Center, here in San Marcos. During one of our meditations, Chaty, the founder of Las Piramides asked a question which was, "what is the invisible?" She was referring to Daath the invisible sephiroth in the Tree of Life of the Qabalah. That day I walked back into the valley to contemplate the answer to her question while sitting next to the waterfall being fully immersed in the beauty and tranquility of nature. After watching a small boy about 12 years old carry a huge bag of coffee down from the back of the valley it dawned on me...
The invisible is all that we do not see or pay attention to. When you order a coffee you are not thinking about those that planted the coffee, those that cared for the plants, picked the beans, carried them to be transported, peeled them, roasted them and packaged them. We just see the final product. All the work that went into achieving the final product is the invisible.
So, the idea came about to host a festival where people for a moment (or more specifically a weekend) could see the workings behind, and indulge in, short workshops that expend awareness in health, education and the environment. So in 2009, with some help with some friends, San Marcos hosted the first Festival of Consciousness. Since then it has been an annual event always around the Spring equinox, (March 21st).
San Marcos is such an incredible lake side town, filled with many talented and educated people with so many gifts to share. It is an absolute pleasure to organize this festival to see like minded and open hearted people coming together to learn, share and exchange information, ideas and their passions. As the people of the community have so much to share it is a great way to have a little taste test of all the things you can do and study here. The Lake is a place where transformation on many levels occurs. Therefore, the intent of the festival is to give each participant little seeds of knowledge, wisdom and understanding to take with them on their journeys and to plant these seeds of awareness in all those that they touch.
